Repointing and brickwork cleaning 

Shivram did a fantastic job transforming the front of our house - a 1930s terrace which was looking very tired and run-down on the outside. He meticulously cleaned up the bricks, repointed the brickwork and painted the front of the house, showing great attention to detail throughout. Communication throughout the project with both Shivram and Ruth was great and the quote was reasonable and transparent with a full breakdown for the work. We'd had a very bad experience at a previous property in the same area with a repointing job so we were very relieved to find a skilled workman who did a proper job. We're thrilled with the results - it looks like a new house - and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Shivram.

Shivram spent over three months at our property re-pointing, restoring window arches and painting our external windows on the back of our three story victorian house in SW2. The quality of his work was excellent and he has restored our building back to its former glory with lime mortar. Shivram was extremely tidy, reliable (working all through the winter months) and a pleasure to have around. We will be asking him back to complete additional projects on the house.

I would have no hesitation working with Shivram again (by far the best workman I have ever had). He is very professional, reliable and worked long hours without compromising quality to meet my various timelines. My 100 year old garden wall was an eye sore before Shivram worked his magic. Shivram is very conscientious and a pleasure to work with. He was very helpful providing tools, expertise and time in helping me remove render and paint from the wall prior to the actual pointing work and he fitted around other builders working on a patio and my efforts to prepare the wall. It's a shame I have to paint over the immaculate pointing work and the coping stones - everyone who has seen his work have commented on the quality (including other builders). To sum up I would say you will not find a better trades-person than Shirvam, from the initial quote (which was very competitive), the work to the finished product. If only all builders went the extra mile and take pride in their work like Shivram.

Re-pointing some brickwork at back of terraced house. 

Shivram has completed the original job and I was so pleased with it that he is now re-pointing the front and undertaking exterior decorating for me. His work is meticulous and he is a joy to have on site. He just gets on with it. A neighbour has now asked for a quote for re-pointing. Very reasonable price, cleans up each day and only stops for a brief lunch! Highly recommended.

Shivram was a pleasure to work with on our job. He was prompt and reliable when coming to do the quote which was very reasonable and returned quickly. Both Ruth and Shivram were then very helpful in answering my additional questions both before and after confirming the job. Shivram arranged the scaffolding and ensured he was here when it was erected so that it was done correctly and as he needed it in order to do the job. He was completely unobtrusive and very conscientious, neat and tidy and took great care in the work he did which was repairing the bricks and mortar that had become weather damaged on the front of our house and then painting all four stories and the windows. He completed the job in the time he quoted and often worked from early in the morning until late in order to complete it. We're very happy with the quality of the work and the finished painting. The house looks great and we would have no hesitation in working with him again or recommending him to others.

Shivram has recently completed a 6 week mammoth re-pointing job on the back of our house and our chimney. He organised the scaffolding and delivery of materials himself and has been a pleasure to have around. Shivram is very discreet and respectful. The job took a little longer (due to the weather) but he was so unimposing that sometimes we forgot he was even here (!) and to me, a mother of young children, that is a great bonus when you having work done on your house. His work shows great skill, he is careful, extremely hard-working and self-sufficient. I gave him a key and trusted him completely. Shivram worked all the hours he could to complete the job (many times into darkness) and was totally reliable. My husband and I are very pleased with the job that Shivram has done for us. Aesthetics seem to be as important to Shivram as the technical side of the work and he clearly takes great pride in his work. He is very tidy and the finish is great. I couldn't recommend him more highly. Thanks again Shivram.

I am so glad we asked Shivram to take on this job. He has done a lovely job and we couldn't ask for a better quality finish. Despite the tricky nature of the job (6 flats being involved, needing access to them at different times etc) Shivram was always very accommodating and a pleasure to deal with. Likewise, it was great to be able to speak to Ruth when he wasn't available and I really valued the time she took to help the job run smoothly. I would definitely recommend Shivram for any exterior work and am trying to think where I could put a mosaic as I know that is his speciality! An excellent job and a nice change from bad builder experiences in the past!

Very good all round, both work and organisation, although not being an expert I can only judge the work by what it looks like - which is first class. Shivram was polite and considerate in spite of having to work through extremely cold conditions, and his partner Ruth (who organised scaffolding, access etc.) was very efficient. Only one very minor grudge - which I should have clarified before accepting the quote, so perhaps I bear some of the responsibility: There are several cables on the wall which was pointed, which he did not reattach after completion. As I say, I should have checked to see if this would be included.

Shivram carried out the re-pointing job on the front of my Victorian house. We then also employed him to clean, repair and re-point a patio wall and to built a new party-wall in the front of the house. We had viewed several properties by several re-pointers/builders before making a decision - Shivram's work was in a different league to his competitors! His quote was very competitive, too. Early on we decided to use lime rather than cement and Shivram was open to this challenge. He did his own research and together we consulted a specialist supplier in Devon for further advice. Basically, lime rendering is more time consuming and harder to work with than standard cement rendering, but for a building like ours (140 years old) lime mortar is what was used originally. Furthermore, the area is prone to subsidence and lime is a more flexible material than cement. Shivram’s re-pointing work is to a very high standard and the front of the house, including the repaired window arches look great. The house really stands out from the neighbouring terraces, now, both of which were re-pointed only a few years ago. We are also very pleased about the new front of house party wall – Shivram suggested to construct it in such a way that we can plant flowers/shrubs in it. This will brighten up the approach to the front door. He also transformed the patio wall with his clean, thick, flowing lines. It had previously been an eyesore with mortar smeared over the surface and very untidy pointing. Shivram was reliable, punctual, trustworthy and extremely hard working rain or shine. He delivers high quality work with great attention to detail. We are very happy to recommend him – you won’t find many workmen like him in any trade!

Shivram did a great job and was well liked by my tenants, which is always really important (and they've turned other tradesmen away in the past, when they haven't felt them to be trustworthy). Moreover, I spoke several times to Ruth, Shivram's wife, over the course of the project. Ruth coordinated the work and kept me fully informed. Both Ruth and Shivram were extremely flexible and helpful. For example, the area that needed repointing went fairly high but was in an awkward position and they found a great solution that meant they didn't need to use scaffolding. I was so pleased that I asked if they would quote for another job I needed doing - and was even more impressed when Shivram said that it wasn't his speciality and so although he could do it, he wouldn't like to quote because it wouldn't be the best job I could get. Plenty of other tradesmen would not have such scruples. I will use SGN again for other work whenever I can. I'm delighted with the quality and reliability of his work and attitude.

Shivram ended up renovating the whole outside of my house, doing a fantastic job of repointing (in lime), repairing cracks, broken bricks, crumbling cement etc. The work on repairing and decorating the windows and surrounding areas was also excellent. Painting exterior of house (2 walls on a 2 storey house) 

We wanted our house painted and knew it would be a tough job. Shivram came to view the job and then gave us a great quote. He was polite, trustworthy, clean and very hard working and got the job done. We had to adapt the job slightly as there was some pointing work to be done and he gladly took on the extra work and didn't charge much for it.

Painting external wall and windows

Shivram did external painting of walls and paintwork on our house and also painted French windows and woodwork inside our house. Everything he did was to a very high-quality professional standard (it is obvious he takes real pride in his work) and for a very reasonable price. He cleaned up at the end of each day and he was always reliable, considerate and a pleasure to have around. I trusted him implicitly with our house keys and was happy for him to go in and out of our house whether we were there or not. Definitely highly recommended.

Excellent preparation and finish

Apart from the professional job done it was a pleasure to have Shivram in our home over 4 weeks. The pointing looks tremendous and we were particularly impressed by the dedication he showed to preparation which is sadly so often overlooked by many.
